Serginho ‘Sergio’ Van Dijk is ready to release his Netherlands citizenship

One of the long-term agenda that must be lived by Garuda is the World Cup 2014 Qualification. The long-term programs that are being prepared to get Indonesia through the World Cup 2014 are IFA-Indonesian Football Academy and the Uruguay Project (SAD Indonesia in Quinta Division Uruguayan League). And the short-term program is to naturalize descent players who compete in overseas league and ISL.

During the AFF Cup 2010, Sergio Van Dijk has not entered the Indonesian national team. But Sergio still hopes for him to strengthen the Indonesian of his mother’s homeland.

The Technique Deputy of National Team Board (BTN), Iman Arif said that we need player like Sergio and until now he is a first choice.

Lately, the BTN discussed with Sergio about the things that are necessary for him to be stripped citizens with Dutch citizenship status. Initially, Sergio needed more detailed explanations related to his future, such as compensation for anything that obtained when he suffered an injury that failed to become the first squad. Basically, Sergio wanted to reach an agreement with the BTN on a black and white.

“Yes, I am ready to give my Dutch citizens”, said Sergio by phone.

Hearing the news, Sergio is increasingly eager to continue discussions with the BTN, as a first step before uniformed Red-White.

“I spoke with my management, and I think this the time to talk more formally with the BTN. I am really excited, impatient, and I hope everything is completed in the next few weeks”, says Sergio.

Sergio Van Dijk was born at August 6, 1982 in Assen. He is playing for Adelaide United in A-League now. Since grazing in Australia two years ago, Sergio became one of the A-League top scorers. Meanwhile, Adelaide’s second ranked standings, 11 points left to the Brisbane Roar which is precisely the Sergio was in the club last year. Sergio owns rank top notch scorer with ten goals from 21 appearances.

Club career

Brisbane Roar

On June 16, 2008, he was signed to a two years contract by Brisbane Roar (then operating as Queensland Roar) after impressing the Roar scouts with his technique at the end of May against Redlands United and a Gold Coast Select-11. Sergio started off the season slowly, only scoring 1 goal in his first 10 matches although managing 6 assists at the time. However, he then silenced the critics by scoring 9 goals in as many matches (including a brace against the Central Coast Mariners).

On January 17, 2009, Sergio was the Roar’s first ever player to score a hat-trick in their 3-1 win over Sydney FC.

Adelaide United

On February 11, 2010, Sergio was signed by Adelaide United on a six-month contract for the club’s AFC Champions League campaign, and made his debut against defending Asian Champions titles, Pohang Steelers on February 24, 2010, in 1-0 win at Hindmarsh Stadium. Sergio made his scoring debut for the Reds in ther 2-0 away win against Shandong Luneng in match Day 2 of the Champions League campaign.

On March 14, 2010, Sergio agreed to a 3-years contract with Adelaide United. Once during a match against his former club Brisbane Roar, he tipped a shot over the crossbar in front of an open goal, throwing away a golden chance to score the match winning goal.
